Billing

How do I renew a domain registration?
You will be able to see what domains are up for renewal in your account area, from there you can choose to renew the domain.

Do you accept checks, wires, etc.?
No, currently the only form of payment is Amex, Master Card, and Visa.

I accidentally registered my domain for too many years, what can I do?
Unfortunately once a domain is sent in to the registry there is nothing we can do, and we enforce our no refund policy.

How do I know that my Credit Card info will be secure through CWnic?
We use Secure server software from Rave with 128bit encryption. We also do not archive any credit card information in our databases. This is why you have to put in your CC info each time you register a domain.

Do you send out invoices for domain registrations for my records? No, we do not snail mail out any invoices for new registrations. Once you register a domain you will receive an electronic invoice via email at which time you can print out to create yourself a hard copy of your purchases.

How do I know when my domain is coming up for renewal?
When a domain is getting ready to come up for renewal, we will send you an email and you will see in you account area any domains that are coming up for renewal. From your account area you are able to renew these domains immediately.

Registering

How do I register a new domain? To get setup to register domain names through CWnic, you need to go here first and open up an account with us. Then follow the instructions from there.

Where do I check to see if a domain is available? You can log into your account here and use the search utility in there, or you can use our whois tool here.

Do I have to register my domain for 2 years? No, you do not have to register a domain for 2 years. You can choose from 1 year up to 10 years for a new registration.

My domain does not show up in Network Solutions whois search yet, does this mean someone else can get it? No, whois servers are just informational reflections of the root name servers, it can take several hours for them to catch up with newly-registered domains. It's the root name servers that make the difference in who owns a domain, not whois servers. Network Solutions, and other ICANN Registrars have the same access to the root servers that keep track of Internet domains, their contact information, and their name server designations. Some whois servers update before others. Network Solutions, for example probably updates their whois servers for their own registrations before other registrars'. Once you register a domain with CWnic, you can try going to Network Solutions and registering the same domain. If you've successfully registered a domain with CWnic, the very instant thereafter no one will be able to register that same domain with Network Solutions or any other ICANN registrar.

I accidentally put in the wrong info associated with my domain, how can I correct this? If you completed a registration with erroneous information, you can easily make modifications to it from you account area. Login into your account, and choose modify contacts. From there choose the contact that you provided the wrong info for, change it and update it.

I don't currently have a host to use any name server info, what should I put? By default our name server info is added to any name registration. If you leave the field checked where it says leave default servers in the name server fields, our server info will be appended to the registration. You can modify the name server info when you do receive updated name server info.

Can I use my own name server info? Yes, if you already have existing name server info, you need to uncheck the area that says use default name server info near the name server fields.

How do I know that my domain was registered? You will receive an email stating that your new domain was successfully registered. From there you can go to the whois tool and look up your domain to see that it is registered to you.

How long does it take to activate a new domain? A new domain can take anywhere from 24-72 hours to become activated. This all revolves around the propagation.

I accidentally made a typo in the domain I wanted, is there anything I can do?
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. Once a domain is sent to the registry there is nothing we can do to reverse that and we enforce our no refund policy.

The domain name I wanted was taken, now what? You need to look for another domain using our domain search utility, try a different spelling or use another tld (.net, .org, .com).
